Page 5
Members questioned the executive secretary about the town
buildings' cleaning arrangements. He explained that the situation
is that the town cannot save money with their current situation.
The town buildings include the police department, town hall,
archives, library, and senior center. He explained that the town
has one maintenance man and one half time person from the DPW to
help him clean and take care of these buildings. Mr. Whritenour
felt that the town would need to hire two new people to properly !
keep these buildings cleaned and maintained. The executive
secretary's opinion was that the town should privatize the cleaning
and keep Mr. Martini on as a maintenance man responsible for these
buildings, doing the repairs that the cleaning company would not be
responsible for. Ms. Greelish stated that she felt the town should
also privatize, but that the library has someone to clean it and it
should be left alone. Mr. Whritenour asked that the Finance
Committee get together with the Board of Selectmen, as well as
himself to discuss the option of privatization. Mr. Dunivan asked
why the town could not combine the cleaning of the school offices
in the town hall with the cleaning of the town hall offices? Mr.
Baker felt that $63,000 was an awful lot of money for the cleaning
of these buildings.
PUBLIC ASSISTANCE
Dan Goggin suggested that the $15,000 should be placed under the
Board of Health's line item rather than that of the Board of
Selectmen. Mr. Whritenour suggested that this also be discussed ,
with the Board of Selectmen. Deirdre also felt that the committee
should move this account to the Board of Health.
I
TAX COLLECTOR
Tony Gallo is also the liaison for this department. Mr. Gallo
stated that the tax collector was requesting a salary increase.
She would like to be even funded with other department heads. His
feelings were that her salary should not be increased because the
Finance Committee was not recommending any salary increases for any
other departments. Mr. Gallo was recommending $157,384. Mr. Gallo
mentioned that she may put an article in the warrant for an 18 hour
clerk. Mr. Whritenour explained that they were discussing this
with the Water District. Quarterly tax bills will create extra
work in the department. Deirdre Greelish thought that it may be a
good idea to write to the Inspector General and get an audit done
on the Water Commission.
LIFEGUARDS
Mr. Whritenour mentioned that a recommendation from the Finance
Committee would be helpful. The town plans to utilize lifeguards
at all locations.
