Board of Selectmen
Minutes—Verbatim
October 10, 2000
Selectman Cahalane: Perkins and Cole have an office in Washington D.C. They are
based out of Washington, D.C.
George Benway: I know. I know that they represent the towns in Connecticut.
They do not represent the Town of Mashpee. We know that and
they do not have an idea at all of the history of Mashpee and what
happened and why it happened. They would have to learn that.
And, that takes time, and that takes a lot of money.
Selectman Green: One thing George. Just about every suit that followed Mashpee
that was taken on...they also had to learn about Mashpee first
because most of what is involved is from the Mashpee suit.
George Benway: But,the nuances, and all of the twists and turns, and you know
attorneys as well as I do, and I know what goes into this, they
would have to sit down and put in some serious time and team
work. That work has been done. That resides at 60 State Street.
To just ignore that, a wealth of information and experience
seems...
Selectman Leveille: ....
George Benway: It's just another stumbling block. Thank you Mr. Chairman.
Applause.
John Ferguson: Selectman Marsters had an excellent, excellent presentation this
evening. I think that most of the townspeople would like to know
the story here of disclosure of what the Tribe actually would like to
have happen in Mashpee themselves. I think there has been many
things happening in Mashpee, there has been a problem with this
whole Tribal Council suit, the Tribal Council recognition.
10
