4
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
October 10, 2000
Meeting re-convened: 7:30 p.m.
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Public Comment:
Mashpee resident and Finance Committee member, Dean Arden related
concern with respect to the pending RAGE suit. Mr. Arden urged the
Selectmen to not support the cause stating that Mashpee has a low cost per
pupil as a result of recent rapid growth and retiree tax contributions.
Route 130 School Bus Parking Lot:
Randy Peters, Jr. residing in the area of the school bus parking lot located
behind Mike's Service Station on Route 130 expressed concern to the
number of buses parked on site which is double to what was originally
allowed. Mr. Peters cited concern with respect to health and safety issues
in addition to increased traffic congestion.
Mr. Peters indicated that eleven buses were housed in the lot owned by the
DiMaggio family who formally ran the school bus service. The site now
stores twenty-five buses. Some of the buses provide service to the
Sandwich schools. Their drivers are noted to reside in Mashpee.
Mr. Peters stated that he attempted to contract the Building Inspector with
respect to this regard. He has not obtained a response to date.
The Selectmen agreed to discuss this matter of zoning, non-conforming
issues, and appropriate inspections with the Building Inspector. In
addition, the storage of fuel tanks will be reviewed with the Board of
Health. Conservation issues will also be considered. The issue will be
brought before the Selectmen on Monday, October 30, 2000.
Eleanor Thaxton, a resident of the above subject area of discussion
deferred her comments stating that Mr. Peters addressed them adequately.
it
