13
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
October 30, 2000
OLD BUSINESS:
Discussion of Use of Legal Resources: (continued)
Selectman Taylor: Well, I don't agree with that...In speaking with Mr.
Marshall last week, I did not get that impression. Obviously, you are a
little closer to the situation than I am, but, I feel like, if we use, who ever
we use, to just get information, that is my main thing, is information. It is
not a legal battle at this point, of any means. We are not even close to
that. But, for me, its more, I don't know how you can make, I haven't had
any information from either side for a month, two months, I don't know.
So, I just want, I just want to get information so that if I have to make
decisions, I can make a formal decision, and not just make, what I believe
in. So in my point of view, that is what the use of this legal situation came
from.
Selectman Green: I am just bringing this up to the Board because the
Tribal Council body has directed Mr. Marshall not to sit down and discuss
with him. We are bound by that, so, I can't see as how that, unless a
change in the Tribal bodies vote would give him the authority to come and
sit down. I'm just trying to keep the door open.
Selectman Taylor: I don't believe we slammed it.
Selectman Leveille: I'd like to make sure that everybody knows this,
especially when I made the statement the other day, I'm not going to try to
quote it, but, we spoke about tolerance and further, with the Tribal
Council, we talked about building bridges,... but most importantly where
ever this thing goes, we need to have legal representation. We've got to
have our legal representation. We totally shouldn't be without it...we are
just fooling around here, ineffectively.. we are probably wasting our
taxpayers dollars by doing that and certainly wasting our time....there is a
certain amount of endangerment....I will pick up the phone and call legal
counsel. That's a fact.
Selectman Green: ...there are things the Board needs to consider and think
about.
