15 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> October 30, 2000 <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> Discussion of Use of Legal Resources: (continued) <br /> Selectman Marsters: I agree with David. <br /> Selectman Leveille: I guess I was saying, I don't want, I would prefer not <br /> to have any serious restrictions on our ability of going to Hale and Darr. <br /> And, I did have one conversation with them, and they can't deal like that <br /> either, because it's hard to deal like that.. <br /> Selectman Taylor: I do,myself have a problem with that, I do want to <br /> bring it to, like I had suggested, Kopelman and Paige and being sure that <br /> we are legal in what we are doing. And, if that is true,then I do not have a <br /> problem. I'll make that a motion. Selectman Marsters: Second. <br /> George Benway: What is the motion? <br /> Selectman Leveille: That we will employ Hale and Dorr as our counsel for <br /> this matter, for the Tribal recognition matter, Tribal Council matter..I'm <br /> not sure how to word it, and contingent on approval by Kopelman and <br /> Paige...Before we leave the motion, do we agree to make a telephone call <br /> to Len Kopelman to get a legal ruling on this? <br /> George Benway questioned the appointment, and recommended that Hale <br /> and Dorr be appointed as special counsel. The Board agreed to include <br /> special counsel in their motion. <br /> Selectman Leveille: Okay, motion on the floor, All in those in favor. Aye. <br /> Opposed. One. Vote: 3-1. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Taylor to employ the services of Hale and <br /> Dorr as Special Counsel for the Tribal Council recognition matter <br /> contingent upon a legal ruling from Town Counsel, Kopelman and <br /> Paige. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters. <br /> VOTE: 3-1. Motion carries. <br /> Selectman Green in opposition. <br />
