MASHPEE FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
JULY 27 , 1993
MEETING COMMENCED AT 7: 15PM
Members Present: Dan Goggin, Chairman; Deirdre Greelish; Denise
Sullivan; Tony Gallo; and John Ferriday. Roger Dunivan was unable
to attend.
Please note that the taping of this meeting was for the
transcription of the minutes only. The tapes will be reused once
the minutes are approved.
REQUEST FOR TRANSFERS
Rick York, Shellfish Constable, was present at the meeting to
discuss the condition of his truck. There is currently 60,537
miles on his odometer. The truck needs brakes, rear axel seals, a
new exhaust system, and there is so much front end frame rust that
it will cost $3, 300 to repair the damage. There are no other town
vehicles available to him at this time. He researched the purchase
of a new truck, approximately $18,000 to buy. He would like to
repair the truck he is currently using. He felt that it was a good
truck other than its current problems. He was utilizing the
school's station wagon, but it was not a vehicle he was comfortable
with driving near the water. He has been driving his own vehicle
while the truck is out of use. Mr. York explained that he has had
numerous people look at the truck and none can figure out why it
has rusted in the front only. The amount requested by the
Shellfish Constable is $3,000 to be transferred from the Reserve
Account into the Shellfish Expense Account for the replacement or
repair of the Shellfish Department's truck. Members of the Finance
Committee requested that Mr. York get three bids for the costs of
repairing the truck and then propose them to the Board of
Selectmen. Afterwards, the Finance Committee would be willing to
sign the transfer. Deirdre Greelish, MOTIONED to transfer an
amount from the Reserve Account to the Shellfish Expense Account
for the purpose of repairing the truck. The amount to be decided
on by the Board of Selectmen after three bids are obtained by Mr.
York. Denise Sullivan seconded the Motion and members voted
unanimously 5-0 in approval. Mr. Goggin suggested that the money
come from the Shellfish Propagation Receipts rather than out of the
Reserve Fund. Ms. Sullivan did not agree with his suggestion.
This sugestion was not discussed further.
CORRESPONDENCE
Mr. Goggin informed the committee about a meeting on Wednesday,
August 7, 1993 at 7:OOPM with the Board of Selectmen and the School
Committee at the Mashpee Middle School .
