R.
Page 3
Ms. Sullivan questioned whether or not Ms. Greelish spoke to Mr.
Vaccaro and Mr. Whritenour about the privatization of cleaning or
the Leisure Service secretary? Ms. Greelish stated that she
hadn't, but would mention it in their next discussion. Ms.
Sullivan stated that she felt the Finance Committee had many
discussions and made many good suggestions for the town, but many
were not followed through on. Ms. Greelish stated that Mr.
Whritenour still did not have a tracking mechanism in place for
vehicle maintenance for town vehicles.
Mr. Goggin then stated that Diane Rommelmeyer, Town Accountant, was
unable to attend the meeting, but issued copies of the FY1993 Final
Appropriation Report. The report included all expenditures
processed through July 15, 1993 . The department encumbrances were
not a part of the report.
Mr. Ferriday and Ms. Greelish then discussed something that they
had been preparing for the committee's public relations, in order
to get the voters of the town to start thinking in another way.
The proposal was in response to criticism the committee had
received regarding the School Department. The Finance Committee
felt that many townspeople felt that the committee was hurting the
children of the town by not giving the School Department everything
they requested. Mr. Ferriday and Ms. Greelish explained that this
was not so, but that other departments in the town. were also in
great need of funding. Mr. Ferriday explained that these
departments are also necessary and have many responsibilities to
the townspeople, especially the children. They wished to know if
the Finance Committee would be interested in reviewing the many
other contributions of town departments, making the nurturing of
Mashpee's future generations the vocal point? Mr. Gallo stated
that the new Reform Bill lets the School Department get their money
first before anybody else. Mr. Goggin mentioned that the State
Mandate states that you have to contribute so much. Again, Ms.
Sullivan pointed out that the committee spends so much time on
discussions like these, but very rarely follow through.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00PM. The next meeting will be a joint
meeting with the Board of Selectmen on August 9, 1993 at 6:30PM.
There will also be a meeting with the School Department and the
Board of Selectmen on August 11 , 1993 at 7:OOPM at the Mashpee
Middle School . The Finance Committee will also meet again with the
Board of Selectmen on August 23 , 1993 .
Minutes recorded by Jean M. Mooney, Finance Committee Board
Secretary.
