The Finance Committee asked that Article 18 be split into two articles. It dealt with 2 disbursements for the School budget. One was an appropriation of Cherry Fund Educa- tion funds for $184,000. The other was an appropriation from the taxpayers to meet the Education Bill requirement. The amount is not yet known, but will be in the range of $40,000 to $82,000_ Deirdre Greelish spoke vehemently against the Education Bill ap- propriation, saying all the Boards of Selectmen on the Cape should be suing the State on the grounds that the requirement is an unfunded mandate. The Selectmen agreed to split Article 18 into 2 articles. A Board of Health article to correct salary errors was noted because it has appeared on other October warrants. John Ferriday strongly recommended that the Health Agents be brought into the P.A.P. to stop this step-increase problem. Deirdre took exception to several articles for the same reason: the matters were thor- oughly discussed last winter and spring, and decisions were made accordingly. The Se- lectmen and town meeting decided at the May Annual Meeting not to fund these requests. Period. They should not appear again until next May. The issues were: The Assistant Town Planner, Harbormaster boat, Data Processing consultant, Shellfish truck. The Selectmen and Finance Committee requested an explanation for articles relating to Harbormaster salary and benefits, Benefits and Unemployment, part-time social security, and Medicare.
