4
Page 2
Mr. Ferriday believed that responses to these questions should be
received no later than two weeks. Mr. Goggin felt that each member
should take a block of questions for the meeting the next night.
Ms. King would call Barbara Dakin, Local Services, for update of
Department of Revenue requirements.
Mr. Goggin asked if the Committee wished to publicize the custodian
transfers? The Committee agreed to publicize.
other points to discuss at the School Committee meeting would be
the hiring of a principal, business manager and full time
kindergarten. Ms. King stated that the Education Bill states that
kindergartners will need to be full time in four to five years.
Mr. Ferriday asked if they wanted to discuss the cost of staffing
and supplies for high school? Mr. Goggin said that no it should
not be discussed tomorrow. Mr. Goggin is comfortable using the
figure in the Long Range Plan. Ms. King stated that they were
increasing the budget $570,000.
Mr. Goggin mentioned that the Treasurer called Mr. Goggin and
thanked the Finance Committee for going along with her salary
request for both 2% increases, but that she also felt she was due
the 3% retroactive increase that the PAP got at the fall town
meeting. Mr. Goggin informed her that the Finance Committee did
not recommend her increase, only that the Selectmen be consistent
in regard to elected employees. Ms. King wanted it on record that
it was her opinion that elected officials should go to the voters
to request salary increases and that they should not be in the PAP.
Mr. Ferriday also felt that the elected officials should remain
separate. This also applied to town employees such as the
Librarian, Sealer of Weights and Measures, Plumbing and Wiring
Inspector, Assessors, etc.
Finance Committee members agreed to adjourn at 8: 30PM. They will
meet again tomorrow night at the Middle School Library at 7:OOPM.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Wednesday,
March 16, 1994 at 7:OOPM.
1
