Page 6
Mr. Dunivan also mentioned that from December through March,
Mashpee is 40% below average for general calls with the exception
to break-ins. Mr. Dunivan asked if it would be possible to just
hire one additional patrolmen and use Community Policing during the
busy months. Mr. Dunivan felt that there must be some alternative.
Mr. Goggin asked Chief Frye to furnish the Committee with
comparison studies from other towns. Chief Frye indicated that
Mashpee is just as busy as the rest of the towns on the Cape. He
explained that Mashpee is right in the middle of the upper Cape.
He gave the Finance Committee a copy of Crime Statistics for 1992 ,
Upper Cape Cod Community Policing Alliance.
The group spoke next of expenses. Mr. Dunivan indicated that he
recommended reducing repairs by $5,000. He also mentioned the
question of portable radios vs. computer upgrading. It was Mr.
Dunivan's understanding that the portable radios were more
essential to the Department. Chief Frye stated that the portable
radios would come from the State anyway. Mr. Dunivan mentioned
that he did not recommend an antennal satellite but did recommend
vehicle leasing. Chief Frye indicated that Sergeant Clancy would
get more information out to the Finance Committee in regard to
vehicle leasing. Mr. Dunivan then mentioned an error in the
dispatcher line item. He believed that salaries were needed for 10
part timer dispatchers not 11.
The meeting adjourned at 9:45PM. The next meeting will be held on
Thursday, March 24, 1994 at 7:OOPM.
