5.
Ms. Greelish mentioned that the Committee was now $61,000 short.
The Selectmen were presently $35,000 short. The Committee agreed
to change their figure in the Reserve/Appropriation Account to
$527,487 from $467,487. The also agreed to change the Abatement
Reserve to $387,000 from $450,000. These changes would put them in
balance.
CAPITAL REQUESTS
The Committee discussed the two yard loader purchase. Ms. Greelish
asked if the Committee felt it essential to buy the loader this
year? Mr. Goggin mentioned that the Committee needed to find out
when and if the payments were going to be made annually. If the
Town decided to lease the loader, it would cost them 17% annually
and/or $17,000 in interest. It did not make financial sense to
lease rather than purchase.
Mr. Goggin and Ms. Greelish had drafted the Message to the Voters
to be distributed at Town .Meeting. The Committee reviewed the
message and agreed to make some changes, but that the majority of
the letter was fine and should be handed out. The Committee agreed
that the message should contain a mention of frugality, due to the
new high school being built. Ms. Greelish also mentioned that she
would include the graph and the document entitled, "where the money
is going" . Also included would be a table detailing a "Five Year
Trend",
Brad Caffyn entered the meeting at 9:50PM to discuss what he and
many other volunteers were doing for Mashpee's Herring. Marcia
King left the meeting at 10:OOPM. Ms. Greelish stated that the
Finance Committee has in the past approved money which is not being
spent. Mr. Caffyn explained that he is working very hard to try
and change that. There are many concerned citizens putting in many
volunteer hours to make sure that the Herring Runs will be taken
care of. He was not there to ask the Finance Committee to approve
any more money, but to just ask for their positive support as to
what the volunteers are trying to do for the Town at the up and
coming meeting.
Finance Committee members agreed to leave the meeting at 10:10PM.
The meeting will reconvene at 6:30PM on Monday evening. At that
time, the Committee will clear up any last minute details and get
themselves ready for the meeting. Minutes were submitted by Jean
M. Mooney, Recording Secretary.
