Page 5
Mr. Goggin stated that the third item Mr. Vaccaro discussed was the
125th Anniversary of the Town. Mr. Vaccaro anticipates that the
Town will collect $15 to $20,000 in fees collected.
i
Ms. Sullivan asked if Mr. Vaccaro mentioned any money articles for
the October Town Meeting? Mr. Goggin said no they had not
discussed articles. Denise mentioned that she would find out what
has been submitted to date. She felt that Great Oak Road will be
a money article. Mr. Goggin then mentioned the Computer Committee
had been mentioned. He said that Mr. Vaccaro told him that bids
were coming back.
Ms. King reminded the Committee of the August 12th meeting with DOR
regarding the Educational Reform Act. Ms. King asked that a memo
be sent to Dr. DeMoura, the School Committee and the Board of
Selectmen inviting them to attend.
Ms. Sullivan mentioned the legal bills again. She gave the list of
bills to be paid out of that $22 ,000 that was transferred from the
Reserve Fund to Legal and Engineering. The Committee still felt
that these June bills did not answer their questions. Mr. Goggin
asked that a letter be sent to Mr. Whritenour requesting that he
reply in writing as to why legal counsel for the School Department
was paid out of the Legal and Engineering Account.
The Committee spoke about a requested position by the Town
Accountant for a part time temporary clerk for her Department. Ms.
Sullivan mentioned that a floating clerk's position had been
approved and was still not filled. She believed a floater could be
used for this. Mr. Goggin was concerned because the Town would be
paying a new position, as well as paying the clerk who is out on
leave. Ms. Sullivan stated that the Town Accountant has $1,000 in
her wages account and then she should come to the Finance committee
for a Reserve Fund transfer. The Board of Selectmen had approved
the previous evening a 19 hour position. Ms. Sullivan also
mentioned that the Harbormaster was also at that meeting to request
a purchase of a new motor for a boat.
John Ferriday mentioned that he had spoken with the Department Head
at the Council on Aging. Supposedly the seniors are being provided
meals by a Federal State Grant with Meals on Wheels on certain
days. According to Mr. Ferriday, Mashpee is $22,000 in arrears
because this grant did not come in. Mr. Ferriday indicated that if
the bills were not paid, the meals would be done away with. A
member stated that it was not legally the Town's bill . Mr.
Ferriday explained that he understood this, but it would be hurting
some of the seniors in the Town if the meals were discontinued.
Mr. Ferriday suggested to the Department Head that he draw a
scenario of programs being provided to the Town's seniors and come
in and talk to the Committee.
The meeting adjourned at 9:40PM. The next meeting will be held on
