9
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
April 5, 1999
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Jose h Potzka re: Mashpgep Trolley Service: (continued)
It is the consensus of the Board to obtain further information with respect
to the proposal of the CCRTA. The matter will be placed on the
Selectmen's agenda of April 26, 1999.
Public Hearing—Shellfish Hearin :
Selectman Marsters opened the Public Hearing on the proposed Shellfish
Regulations for the 1999 Season. Richard York, the Shellfish Constable
was present to discuss the regulations with the Board and interested
public.
One long-standing agreement is to share Waquoit Bay for shellfishing
with the Town of Falmouth. The other is the acceptance of the
Wampanoag Tribal Identification Cards as alternatives to shellfish permits
(under agreement with the tribe, the Mashpee Shellfish Regulations apply
to tribal shellfishing).
Additional changes include the increase in catch limits for family and
commercial shellfishing informed Mr. York. The changes would also
make our catch limits the same as Falmouth's catch limits which would
simplify the management of Waquoit Bay.
The regulations also propose to allow commercial shellfishing on Sundays
in the winter. Scuba diving for shellfish in Nantucket Sound is an
additional shellfish regulation proposal.
Being no public comment, Selectman Marsters requested a vote from the
Board to close the Public Hearing.
Motion made by Selectman Taylor to close the Public Hearing.
Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille.
VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0.
Motion made by Selectman Taylor to.approve the proposed Shellfish
Regulations for the 19" Season as presented.
Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille.
VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0.
