r '
6
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
May 17, 1999
APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS:
Carl Gustafson Ashumet Pond Drilling:
Carl Gustafson,AFCEE, Jacobs Engineering and Michael Minior, AFCEE
were present to request the Board approve monitoring well drilling on
Ashumet Pond for the purpose of collecting core samples as part of the
ongoing remedial investigation of the CS-10 and Ashumet Phosphorus
groundwater plumes.
A number of locations will be positioned on the pond using GPS. The
direct push drilling technique will be used for approximately 40 shallow
pond-bottom sediment corings and/or boring to a depth of 100 feet. The
drilling equipment will be set on a pontoon boat, which will remain on the
pond continuously until the work is complete.
The drilling is expected to begin in early June until the last week in
August informed Mr. Gustafson. The hours of operation include;
Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturdays if
necessary.
Selectman Marsters opened the hearing to obtain comment.
Janice Mills asked how the area residents reacted to the process, which is
expected to last all summer.
Mr. Gustafson stated that approximately six residents attended the
informational meeting. It is their understanding that it is important to
conduct the sampling process during this period of time. It was noted that
during the summer months, it is ideal to review the phosphorus content of
the pond.
Being no further comment, Selectman Marsters requested a vote from the
Board to close the Public Hearing.
Motion made by Selectman Taylor to close the Public Hearing.
Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille.
VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0.
