Board of Selectmen Minutes May 17, 1999 APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS. Carl Gustafson—Ashumet Pond Drillin : (continued) Motion made by Selectman Taylor to approve the request of the AFCEE to conduct monitoring well drilling on Ashumet Pond from June 7, 1999 to August 31, 1999 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and on Saturdays as needed. Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille. VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0. Skateboard Park Discussion: The Mashpee Police Department received a grant through the Cops and Kids Program to construct a Skateboard Park. Gus Frederick,Director of Leisure Services applauded William Przybylek, Chief of Police to seek the funding initiative for the youth of the Town of Mashpee. Three sites were recommended to be considered for the development of a Skateboard Park. Mr. Frederick suggested that a focus group of individuals, including youth, associated Town Department and interested adults review the design of the park and amenities, develop rules and regulations and develop a risk-management plan to be implemented with the aid of the Fire&Rescue Department. The Selectmen and interested public reviewed potential sites located behind the Mashpee Police Department,the Old Firing Range of the Police Department and a site located on Old Barnstable Road adjacent to the Mashpee High School. An in-depth discussion followed. It was agreed that the facility should be constructed in close proximity to the Police and Fire Departments,and be centrally located to Mashpee Commons and the future Boys and Girls Club. The pros and cons of the site locations were discussed. Several residents spoke in objection to the site located behind the Mashpee Police Department. The residents of the Quashnet Valley development voiced concern with respect to the potential for increased noise levels, which would emanate from the skateboard park.
