4
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
October 18, 1999
NEW BUSINESS:
1 Approval of Boys and Girls Club Si (continued)
Motion made by Selectman Leveille to approve the sign of the
Boys & Girls Club at the intended site location for term of(30) days
subject to the approval of the Building Department and Design
Review Board for the permit of said sign.
Motion seconded by Selectman Blythe.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS:
Local Emergency lannin Committee:
Mr. Whritenour, Town Administrator recommended the Board change the
designation of Fire Chief Baker as Hazardous Waste Coordinator to
"Hazardous Materials Community Response Coordinator", and authorize
Chief Baker to recruit/identify members for the Local Emergency
Planning Committee (LECP) including the advertising for community
based membership and appoint members based on recruiting/advertising.
It was noted that the recommendation to change Chief Baker's designation
was prompted by a recent incident that occurred at the Coombs School
when a staff member accidentally dropped a thermometer.
Mashpee has not applied for LEPC certification with the state. Town
LECP's coordinate the clean up and disposal of hazardous wastes. Not
having a certified LEPC precludes the Town from receiving Hazmat grant
funding, and may increase the Town's level of civil liability in the event of
a hazardous materials release in or around Mashpee.
Motion made by Selectman Blythe to accept the recommendation of
the Town Administrator and approve the actions set forth in the
memorandum of September 30, 1999 to designate Chief Baker as
"Hazardous Materials Community Response Coordinator,"
Motion seconded by Selectman Taylor.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
