The pond would reopen for shellfishing
on July 1,2000 (unless specified otherwise at a subsequent hearing). This
would be a management closure to protect the abundant soft-shell clam
seed in the pond.
Mr. Whritenour, Town Administrator read aloud the Public Hearing notice
as published. Richard York, Shellfish Constable was present to discuss
the closure process with the Board and interested public.
Mr. York explained the benefits of the closure to protect the soft-shell
clam seed in the pond and as an added benefit, to allow the adult shellfish
to spawn and re-seed the area as well. it was noted that the pond is very
productive and this type of process was conducted in 94/95 without
objection.
