Board of Selectmen
Minutes 6
March 30, 1998
NEW BUSINESS:
Jobs Fishing Extension Discussion: (continued)
Mr. Coffey recommended the Selectmen consider the proposed Jobs
Fishing Road Extension to Old Barnstable Road to allow for the development
of a bypass around the Mashpee Rotary.
As noted, the Town has discussed the concept of a bypass for the rotary
since 1971. The construction of the Middle School resulted in a conflict
between the proposed road location and the school.
Mr. Fudala proposed a new location in 1996 that involved a land trade
with the owner of the Quashnet Valley development. It was noted that the
proposal was endorsed by the Selectmen and School Committee although
it did not interest the property owner.
Representatives of the owner of the Quashnet Valley liopment have
recently approached the Planning Board about completing the portion of
the Quashnet Valley subdivision next to the Quashnet Schools informed
Mr. Coffey_
The Planning Board has advised the Selectmen of the situation to provide
one last opportunity for the town to pursue protection and acquisition of the
right-of-way needed to locate the proposed Jobs Fishing Road Extension.
Mr. Coffey indicated that the extension would benefit emergency access
to North Mashpee in addition to alleviating local traffic around the rotary.
A public hearing will be scheduled to address this concern.
Sandy Bernstein, a resident of Snead Drive requested that adequate notice
be mailed to the abutters of the project proposal prior to the public hearing.
The Planning Board was also requested to use informational diagrams when the
presentation is made to local residents.
Snead Drive resident,Dick Baldic related concern with respect to the
safety of the children living in the area, and for the future Boys and Girls Club.
Another resident stated that anyone abutting a project of this magnitude
should be notified of the town's intent in writing.
