Board of Selectmen
Minutes 8
June 8, 1998
rnMtvrrCATIO SAND CORRESPNDENC ,
Assembly f D le s
Selectman Caffyn updated the Board with regards to the Assembly of
Delegates and return of surplus funds. Funding is expected to be
distributed to contributing towns through the county tax return in lieu of
the excise return. Mr. Whritenour will draft a memo of concern on behalf of
the Town in objection to the distribution of funds. It was noted that Mashpee
would receive $10,9033 less is the county tax return method were used.
a a Fi 1 Lighting Pr t:
Selectman Caffyn requested the Board authorize Greg Taylor to meet with
the 102nd Fighter Wing Unit and Mashpee Little League to discuss baseball
field lighting. In addition, Mr. Taylor will be requested to review other potential
"free service" projects the 102nd Wing Unit may provide to the Town.
LD BUSINESS:
Mmorndmfrm Council on Aging Dirggtorr : Pr e Tax VoucherSystem:
Jim Long, the Council on Aging Director was present to recommend the Board
eliminate the Income Guidelines established for prior years, through FY98.
Mr. Long suggested the Board eliminate income guidelines for the FY99 property
tax voucher system program.
i
It was noted that the Council on Aging voted to adopt the recommended
guidelines. For the past three years, approximately eighteen residents applied
for the program. No applicant was within the low income median guideline of
S1b,650 per individual informed Mr. Long.
The property tax work-off voucher system allows eligible Mashpee
residents to perform services for the Town in exchange for compensation
which can be used for the payment of property taxes.
It is the consensus of the Board to further analyze the moderate income
guideline. The subject will be presented as an agenda topic at the next
scheduled Selectmen's meeting.
