i <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes 2 <br /> July 6, 1998 <br /> APPOINTMENTS &ED HEARINGS: <br /> Director of Public Works r _ Horse Shoe Bend W .yip <br /> The Board reviewed the correspondence received from Greg Taylor, <br /> Director of Public Works dated June 17, 1998 relative to Horse Shoe Bend <br /> Way Road repairs. <br /> Mr. Taylor presented an estimate to the Board to address four primary <br /> washed out areas of the road to be filled, and to regrade the remaining dirt <br /> road area using approximately 175 tons of crushed stone. The stone is <br /> estimated to cost $2,000. The use of a grader, loader,truck and DPW laborers <br /> amount to $925. Total sum, $2,925. <br /> Several residents of Horse Shoe Bend Way were present to discuss this <br /> matter with the Board of Selectmen. It was noted that the road was graded <br /> in the spring and fall by the former Director of Public Works. It was noted that <br /> the road has three right of ways to Ashumet Pond. <br /> The sum of$10,000 is placed into the Emergency Road Repair Fund each <br /> fiscal year. Discussion ensued relative to the road as it presently exists. <br /> Mr. Whritenour, Executive Secretary indicated that the Board of Selectmen do <br /> not have the authority to assess betterment's unless the road has been <br /> converted to a public way. He suggested the abutters petition the Town <br /> for Town Meeting action to approve the road conversion. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Caffyn to allocate the sum of$1,000 <br /> from the Emergency Road Repair Fund for crushed stone to repair <br /> Horse Shoe Bend Way. There is no additional charge for use of <br /> DPW labor and equipment. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Frye. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Director of P bl )Yorks re: Monomoscgy Culvert:. <br /> Correspondence was received from the Monomoscoy Improvement Trust <br /> dated June 7, 1998 requesting the Board repair and replace the failed 24" <br /> culvert pipe which connects Hamblin Pond with Great River. The culvert is <br /> located under the Monomoscoy road causeway leading to Monomoscoy Island. <br />
