Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes 9 <br /> July 20, 1998 <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> Mempmudume a e d (continued) <br /> Ted Lewis, a resident of Hooppole Road stated that there is presently no <br /> police patrol at the major intersections during fair week. He strongly suggested <br /> the Board meet with the Falmouth Selectmen to coordinate the proposed <br /> closing of Ashumet Road, and further discuss the subject of ownership and <br /> related funding initiatives with the government as it pertains to the improvement <br /> of Back Road. <br /> Discussion ensued. Mr. Taylor,Director of Public Works recommended the <br /> Board consider taking the road by eminent domain. It is estimated to cost <br /> $60,000 to repair approximately 1.1 miles of Back Road. The road would be <br /> pulverized, and a 2"binder course would be added. Additional costs would be <br /> incurred if the entire road were fully repaired. <br /> During the interim, the road could be pulverized for approximately $8,000 <br /> informed Mr. Taylor who recommended that legal review be conducted prior <br /> to the use of municipal services. <br /> Selectman Leveille recommended the Board develop policy to address private <br /> roads. He suggested that a subcommittee formally research this matter. <br /> Discussion followed. It is the consensus of the Board to consult the Town of <br /> Falmouth with respect to the issue of public safety during the operation of the <br /> Barnstable County Fair. The matter and importance of signalization will be <br /> further reviewed by the Executive Secretary on behalf of the Board of Selectmen. <br /> In addition, a meeting will be scheduled with Colonel Snyder of the NUAR to <br /> consider funding initiatives to address the issue of Back Road. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Frye to prepare an article for the October <br /> Town Meeting warrant for the road layout and associated costs for <br /> Back Road. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Caffyn. <br /> VOTE Unanimous. 5-0. <br />
