Board of Selectmen Minutes b July 20, 1998 OLD BUSINESS: Order of Taking for Wildlife_Ref Pro}Lrt �, (continued) Due to the nature of title which John L. Druley is willing to convey to the Town, a mutually acceptable agreement has not been reached for the purchase of the property. It was noted that the subject property of woodland has been assessed by the Town to Owners Unknown. At the time of foreclosing the rights of redemption of said parcel due to non-payment of real estate taxes, Tremont at Union Limited Partnership(TAULP)petitioned the Land Court for the right to redeem its interest. A Land Court judge determined that TAULP did possess the legal interest required to allow it to redeem the tax title,but did not render opinion as to the nature of the title possessed by TAULP. Mr. Druley acquired the property from TAULP in 1998. The Town requested that he provide good and marketable title to the subject property. Mr. Druley agreed to provide insurable title which was not deemed sufficient by Town Counsel,Kopelman and Paige. The appraised value is $300,000. Mr. Druley was present to request the Board consummate this matter in an expeditious fashion. Discussion followed. It was noted that Town Meeting authorized the sum of$220,000 for the acquisition of said property. The Conservation Commission voted to contribute an additional $40,000 towards the acquisition. ORENDA, a private wildlife trust has agreed to contribute the $40,000 necessary for the acquisition in consideration that Town Meeting efforts will authorize reimbursement in October. Correspondence was received from Town Counsel dated July 16, 1998 with respect to this regard. ORENDA is expected to confirm its ability or inability to participate in the acquisition in a timely fashion.
