Discussion ensued.
Motion made by Selectman Frye to enforce a 20 mph speed limit on
Shore Drive at Popponesset Beach, and a 25 mph speed limit on other
streets in the Popponesset Beach area.
Motion seconded by Selectman Leveille.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Correspondence from Cape Cad Mosquito Control re: MhnQmQ5cgy.Causeways
The Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project submitted correspondence to the Board
in a memo dated September 3, 1998 relative to the Monomoscoy culvert pipe.
As noted, there is no benefit for the Mosquito Control to have this pipe replaced.
The Selectmen have committed the sum of$5,000 which has not been expended
to date for the repair of the culvert. It was hopeful that the Mosquito Control
would have contributed funds to assist the Town. The project is moving forward
and is presently in the permitting phase without additional assistance at this time.
Jim Hanks, Chairman of the Waterways Commission presented a short video
of the flow of water in the area of discussion. It was noted that engineering plans
are in place, and may save time and allow additional funds for construction.
Department of the Amiy re: Cranberry Bogs:
The Board reviewed the Negative Easement Restriction for the Department of
the Army to acquire certain rights over approximately 27.22 acres of land,
known as the Quashnet bog, for a two year period.
Town Counsel submitted correspondence with respect to this regard in a
memo to the Selectmen dated September 25, 1998. Discussion followed.
