TOWN OF MASHPEE
DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING
March 24, 1999
The Design Review Committee met at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 1999 at
the Lower Level of Mashpee Town Hall.
Committee Members Present: William Hauck, Ex Officio; Ed Govoni, Chairman;
Thomas F. O'Hara, and Mary LeBlanc.
Also Present: Mr. Menendez, J. R. Huber, Rob Burke, & Atty. Kevin Kirrane.
1. Jiffy Lube, 60 Falmouth Road, Route 28
Detailed plans were presented showing a building at a different location from the
previously proposed site. It was suggested the handicap entrance and queuing of
vehicles be adjusted. The queuing of vehicles should be discussed with Greg
Taylor.
The applicants agreed they would expand drainage and maintain trees as
suggested.
Lighting — It was mentioned Jiffy Lube does not typically do site lighting because
their closing hours are normally 6 p.m. They do plan to have building lighting. If
more lighting is suggested, Jiffy agreed it could be done.
Landscaping — Updated landscaping plans were acceptable. A canopy of durable
trees, which will stand up to traffic, will be planted. The lawn area will be carried
around and will be spinkled. The landscaping bond will be between $20,000 and
$25,000. It was suggested Mary LeBlanc review the landscaping plans again,
particularly on the left side of the lot.
There was some opposition to the use of vinyl siding rather than wood.
Water— If there is a spill, it will be contained within the building. The station is tight;
floor drains go into a tight tank and not into the septic system. The water from
washing of hands will go into a 200-gallon above-ground tank.
Signs —A hand-carved sign of slightly over 20 sq. ft. was proposed. It was agreed,
however, the size would be reduced to 20 sq. ft. and, therefore, avoid the necessity
of applying for a special permit. The sign will be 4 ft. off the ground surrounded by
landscaping.
