TOWN OF MASHPEE
DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING
February 23, 2000
The Design Review Committee met at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2000
in Room 3 of Mashpee Town Hall.
Committee Members Present: William Hauck, Ex Officio; Ed Govoni, Chairman;
Mary LeBlanc, Thomas F. O'Hara and Walter Yarosh. Also Present: Russ Wheeler.
Mr. Russo of Canal Auto Body Co. reported he recently met with the Technical
Review Committee which made some suggestions. Mr. Russo is going to
re-evaluate his plans and incorporate the suggestions, particularly relative to access
in the back and a workable parking layout.
1. 518 Falmouth (Antique Store at Rotary) — Consumer Car Rental
Mr. Robert Horton, General Manager of Consumer Car & Truck Rental, proposed
subleasing the 16' x 16' southeast corner of the antique store for use as a vehicle
rental office. An estimated 5-9 rentals would be made per day. A Special Permit will
be required.
They would utilize 13 of the 21 existing spaces. Thirteen would be a high use, Mr.
Horton suggested, and vehicles could be moved off to Bourne if all thirteen spaces
are filled. Additional parking spaces could be created if the gravel area in the rear
were utilized.
The four spaces out front are legal spaces, but are grandfathered. If new spaces are
to be created, the grandfathered spaces would have to be considered in the plan.
Mr. Hauck should be consulted to determine the parking requirements.
One curb cut would have to be closed. The owners, Mashpee Commons, should be
consulted regarding the closure of the curb. A traffic study may be necessary.
Some members suggested the site is shabby-looking and in need of housekeeping.
A hanging sign would be utilized rather than a roof sign.
2. 548 Main Street Echo Road Don Speakman, Plumbing Sul2ply Company
Messrs. George & Mark O'Brien and Dan Speakman proposed plans for a plumbing
and supply house on the corner of Echo Road and Rt. 130 across from Harwich
Block. It would be a wholesale business selling primarily to contractors. Plans
showed some outside storage of plumbing and plastic supplies.
