✓ T
New Post Office continued
• Meters now have to be external so they are hiding them with trestle enclosure.
• Building 21 will go on the site between the post office and the current medical building.
Not doing Building 21 yet.
9 Walter Yarosh commented that the buildings being shown are really well done, but putting
all the parking at the back of the building forces people going to the post office to walk
around the building and he therefore thinks that at some point a back door will have to be
provided to ease access. Walter suggested perhaps they could look at this access issue and
create back entrance off the parking lot. Doug Storrs commented that this new facility
would not have the loading activity like the existing post office because that activity is
going to Industrial Road. Mail coming to the new facility will be for the post office
mailboxes only; mail delivered by mail carrier will be serviced at Industrial Road site.
Doug Storrs also pointed out that parking areas for the library and the post office would be
joined.'
Handicap parking...having at back may not meet requirements, but if they had access
from back parking lot then handicap-parking requirements could be easily met. Mr. Storrs
said that due to post office and homeland security issues, they cannot have public access
to the post office from the back. Tom O'Hara suggested moving the meters to the retail
side of the building and then have doorway entrance from the back. Walter Yarosh
stressed that it is not functional to not have access to post.office at the back.
• Charlie Maintanis noted that 3 handicap parking spaces are needed and one must be van
accessible. Mr. Storrs said that if that is required, that is what they will provide.
• Retention basin will be on post.offce property near 151 and library and post office will
share it. Also, library will tie-into Mashpee Commons waste water treatment.
*. Tom Fudala asked is there loading space for retail services? Mr. Storrs said they would
parallel park to make deliveries.
• Rich Stevens asked: Will retail space have one tenant only? Mr. Storrs responded that is
the goal but if he wants to split into two he can easily add entrance at back. Retail space
for one tenant would equal 3500 square feet; under 7000 square feet office space upstairs.
• Sheldon Hamblin had a preliminary meeting with Mr. Storrs and covered most of the fire
issues already.
The parking and access to the post office was again re-addressed. Waiter stressed that this will be
a disaster if built this way. There was a very lengthy discussion on these issues and Tom O'Hara
again asked about moving the meters to accomplish adding back doorway access. Sheldon
commented that if gas goes to back of the retail building, then fire system has to be redesigned.
Sheldon suggested that in designing Building 21 they think about a loading zone to accommodate
the 3 buildings.
Walter asked whether they could do something to break up the side elevation. Mr. Storrs said
they would look at it and perhaps add trees to break the fagade. Walter suggested maybe they
could break it up with wood; Doug Storrs said they would look at it.
Comments from Audience
Robert Wooldridge asked Mr. Storrs if there are steps at the post office entrances. Mr. Storrs said
"no". Mr. Wooldridge then asked if they could extend the number of handicap spaces by adding
2 or 3 more than are required. Doug Storrs replied that he is open to looking at it after the
building is up if it becomes an issue. Mr. Wooldridge asked: Is parking lot level? Mr. Storrs said
2.2%across the parking lot.
