Mashpee Design Review Committee .
Minutes of Meeting Held Thursday, March 27,2008
Mashpee Town Hall Meeting Room I
Committee Members Present: Robert Nelson, Thomas O'Hara., Tom Jalowy, and Richard Stevens. .
Absent: Walter Yarosh.
Thomas O'Hara, Vice Chairman, called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
J Miller Gallery
681 Falmouth Road
Unit A— 15 & 16
Applicant—John Miller
i
John Miller appeared and said he is expanding into the space adjacent to his business space and the entrance to
the adjacent space will become the main entrance so he would like to replace their sign and his existing sign,
both of which he believes are in conformity with the guidelines and are under 20 square feet. In reviewing the
proposed signage Tom O'Hara pointed out that the whole awning is considered part of the signage and it would
therefore be in excess of 20 square feet. Mr. Miller questioned this saying he thought it was only the text that
was counted, not the whole awning. Further,Mr. Miller commented that as a precaution he'said he spoke with
-the ZBA and they said it didn't have to go to ZBA to conform. There followed.a very lengthy discussion on the
new signage by-law. Tom Fudala had entered the meeting room to attend Plan Review meeting and Tom
O'Hara asked him to explain new signage by-law...in particular when signage appears on awnings.
Conclusion: Stamped approved.
Harmony Network Chiropractic& Yoga
681 Falmouth Road
Unit C-16
Applicant—Dr. Debra Babcock
Dr. Babcock was present. The purpose of his appearance at this meeting was to obtain guidelines as to the rules
governing signage. Some of the questions he raised were:
• How is signage calculated when two store fronts are attached to one business?
• Is glass glazing counted in the 10%coverage allowed or is it an extra allowance? Tom O'Hara
responded that it is counted in the 10%.
John Renz said he would return to Design.Review meeting with a sign program for review by the Committee.
