Mashpee Commons--Building 11B
Installation of roof top wind turbine units
Applicant—Doug Storrs
Tom Feronti was present on behalf of Mashpee Commons. Mr. Feronti said they submitted the stamped
structural plans from Coastal Engineering for the 2 wind turbine units to be installed under Special Permit.
• Just 2 units to be installed.
+ The units will supply the house meter for that building.
• These units are the same as Christy's.
• Tom Feronti thinks they are the mat silvery finish, but he hasn't seen them.
• Emergency disconnect will be in the basement.
+ Nice and easy way to produce another source of energy. Basically they supply the power for the house
meter for one month per year.
• Wind turbine company claims design of swift turbine eliminates noise and vibration.
• Nobody is adjacent to the roof so if unit topples it will land on the roof.
• Committee asked: Can they be turned off if hurricane comes? Tom Feronti responded they are
designed to "shut down" if wind is too strong.
• Mashpee Commons going to Planning Board on June 4 for Special Permit. This application would be
just for these 2 units.
Conclusion: Okay, just as long as it isn't a nuisance.
ApIlroval of Minutes...The Minutes of May 8, 2008 were approved.
Meeting adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
J Ferti
cog Secretary
I
i
i
i
I
3
