South Cape Village
Preliminary Plans for Joy Street Parking
Representative—Matthew Eddy
Charles Talanian and Matthew Eddy appeared. Charles Talanian said he is here to help solve a problem that he
feels exists at South Cape Village. He said the plaza area is too large and it sends out a negative message even
though the many businesses like Roche Bros., Marshall's, Heather's Olympia Sports, Dunkin Donuts all are
doing well. Matt Eddy showed a draft of a preliminary plan drawn up by the architect to cut through the plaza
by providing a 2-way street with on-street parking. Matt Eddy said it is a Special Permit request that the
Planning Board would have to approve. Tom O'Hara suggested that perhaps they are premature on this; he
thinks that the plaza enhances his property. Plaza is 56 feet wide. Charles Talanian said if street approved,
they'd close it off when they have functions such as the Italian dinner night. The preliminary plan was
revi9wed and discussed.
Conclusions:
• Suggested that if it goes forward, make it one-way with diagonal parking on one side only.
Charlie Maintanis commented that diagonal parking would be a good location for handicap
parking.
• Getting deliveries closer to businesses is the way to go.
• Turning radius from Commercial Street to meet code.
• Sheldon Hamblin said street would be advantage to Fire Department as long as radius is
corrected. Also street could not be closed off because Fire Department needs access.
• Walter said now that you have input, you need to come up with options.
QUESTIONS
Bob Wooldridge asked: If Joy Street approved and it is a one-way, where would you cross from one end of Joy
Street to the other? Matt Eddy responded that's what they will have to look at now.
Tom O'Hara asked Charles Talanian whether or not they could bump out around Roche so people coming from
that store have a safer exit from the store. Charles Talanian said he will look into this and they probably can do'
something there.
Approval of Minutes.—The Minutes of August 14, 2008 were approved.
Adjournment...Meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
- Giliberti
cin
cording Secretary
3
