Personnel Board's <br /> Minutes of August 2, 1982 Page 2 <br /> Grievance of James Ames cont. <br /> not applicable in the case of Mr. Ames as he was neither disciplined nor discharged. <br /> He was just not re-appointed., <br /> Sick Bank for Firefighters <br /> In a letter dated July 15; Paul Frazier notified the Personnel Board that a sick bank <br /> will be instituted and authorization is being given to deduct the sick days from each <br /> person's sick time who is eligible. <br /> Board Secretarial Openings <br /> The Personnel Board was notified in a letter dated July 22 from the Executive Secretary <br /> that an opening on the South Cape Beach Committee -for a Board Secretary is needed. . <br /> The secretary also informed the Personnel Board that there is a vacancy on the Growth <br /> Review Board for a Board Secretary. The members of the Personnel Board were in agree- <br /> ment to advertise for the position, but felt that a secretarial pool should be started <br /> in the town. <br /> Tree Warden's Employees <br /> In a memo dated July 22 from the Executive Secretary, a request for an increase in pay <br /> for the personnel hired by the Tree Warden was discussed. A letter dated July 7 from <br /> George Ryan was also reviewed. Bob Sullivan said that he thought $5 an hour would be <br /> an appropriate amount for the type of work that they do. Curtis and Caroline voted for <br /> 'the rate of $3.90 to remain the same as they considered Mr. Ryan's workers as. temporary <br /> help. Bob said that-he would go along with.Caroline and Curtis' vote. <br /> Services of Town Counsel <br /> • Due to increased demands and work loads on Town Counsel, the Board of Selectmen is ask- <br /> ing that all request for legal opinions be directed to them in writing. <br /> Letter from Town Counsel <br /> in a letter dated July 19 from Joe Reardon, he informed the Personnel Board that he <br /> would still be available for advisory opinions and advice relative to personnel- matters <br /> not directly related to Collective Bargaining agreements. <br /> Memo from. the Board of Assessors <br /> In a memo received from the Board of Assessors, they advise the Personnel Board that <br /> they are a part-time Board and have no control over the coming and going of their office <br /> personnel. However, they have requested their employees to report to the Executive <br /> Secretary or the Board of Selectmen as- to when they leave or return to Town Hall for any <br /> reason except for a one hour lunch period. <br /> Appointments <br /> The Board of Selectmen,-at their regular meeting-on July 21 voted to appoint Muriel <br /> McGrath as Administrative Secretary to their Board. They also voted to appoint Katie <br /> Ryan as a Substitute Lifeguard and James Jackson as a Special Police Officer. <br /> Donna (Welling) Harrison <br /> The Board of Selectmen reviewed the Personnel Board's memo. dated July 19 regarding <br /> Donna (Welling) Harrison's comp time'. It is their opinion that she should .be <br /> compensated for the additional hours beyond the seventy hours approved by, the Personnel <br /> Board as they feel that the.individual employee should not be penalized for actions on <br /> the part of her supervisor. The Personnel Board was still not in agreement. <br /> Re--consideration of Personnel Board's Decision <br /> Re: Call Firefighter <br /> The Personnel Board reviewed a request from Chief Mills dated August 2 asking the Board <br /> to re-consider their decision not to recommend John Malone for appointment. The Board <br />
