PERSONNEL BOARD <br /> MINUTES OF JULY 12, 1982 <br /> • MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br /> r <br /> The following members of the Personnel Board were present for tonight's meeting: <br /> Robert Sullivan, Chairman, Caroline Gilligan, John Peters and Curtis Woodbury. <br /> Chairman Sullivan called the meeting to order promptly at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Curtis Woodbury made a motion to accept the minutes of May 10, May 24 and June 7. <br /> Caroline Gilligan seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor. <br /> Town Physician <br /> The Board voted not to act on recommending a town physician at this time to the Board <br /> of Health as per their request. <br /> Call Firefighter Recommendation <br /> A request by Chief Mills that John W. Malone be appointed as a call firefighter on <br /> the Mashpee Fire Department was reviewed by the Board. The Board's feeling was that <br /> the new fire chief, when appointed, should make his recommendations as to the hiring <br /> of airy new help. Therefore, they voted not to act on' the request at this time. <br /> _Step Raises for Highway Dept. <br /> The Personnel Board reviewed a memo dated June 26, 1982, from Burley Greene whereby <br /> he is recommending all of the employees at the Highway Department for a step increase. <br /> A memo from Selectman Garland, dated June 30, opposing the recommendation of Mr. Green <br /> • was also reviewed by the Board as well as a memo from Selectman Thomas asking for the <br /> Personnel Board's consideration of allowing a new department head, after he is appointed, <br /> to make recommendations. It was the feeling of the Personnel Board to allow the new <br /> Superintendent of Streets to make recommendations of any step increases after he has had <br /> a chance to evaluate the .job performance of each employee. They felt that six months <br /> would be a proper amount of time to complete the evaluation process. - They did agree <br /> that any increases earned should be retro-active to July 1. <br /> Administrative Secretary. Interviews <br /> The Personnel Board interviewed the following candidates for the Administrative Secre- <br /> tarial openning in the Selectmen's office: Mary Regan, Debra Macedo, Muriel McGrath <br /> and Bernice Sagerman. Typing tests were given to all candidates. The Executive Secre-. <br /> tary was present during the interviews. The Personnel Hoard unanimously voted to re- <br /> commend Muriel McGrath and Debra Macedo to the Board of Selectmen for finalists. <br /> Temporary Help - Highway Department <br /> Additional time was asked to.be given for the Highway Department to retain the services <br /> of Nasky Ross during the period of July 2, 6, 8 and 9. The Board voted in favor. <br /> Alternate Night for Personnel Board Meetings <br /> The Personnel Board voted to choose Tuesday evenings as an alternate night to meet <br /> during a week where a Monday holiday occurs. Bob Sullivan said that he wanted to make <br /> it clear the the Board would meet on Tuesday. evenings only in a case of dire necessity. <br /> Attendance of Board Members <br /> Bob said that he felt it was up to members of the Board to do a self-evaluation to de- <br /> cide if the should stay on the Board if the were missing a lot of meetings.
