PERSONNEL BOARD <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br /> MINUTES OF JUNE 7, 1982 <br /> The following members of the Personnel Board were present: Robert Sullivan, <br /> Caroline Gilligan and Curtis Woodbury. <br /> Chairman Sullivan called the meeting to order promptly .at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Appointment of Personnel Secretary <br /> The Personnel Board voted to appoint Marilyn Farren as Secretary to the Personnel <br /> Board. They were in agreement that the probationary period be waived as Mrs. Farren <br /> has been working in the Personnel office as a temporary secretary from September 21, <br /> 1981. They also voted to grant sick time and vacation time .benefits retroactively on <br /> a pro--rated basis. A physical -will be .scheduled with Dr. Lewis. <br /> Town Physician <br /> The Board of Health requested the Personnel Board to send them a recommendation for a <br /> new town physician for fiscal 1983. Bob Sullivan said that his feeling was to recom- <br /> mend a doctor located in the Town of Mashpee. He said that he would check with <br /> Dr. Di'Orio and report back to the Board. <br /> Request of Howland Evora <br /> A memo dated May 27 from Howland Evora requesting that he be able to .take vacation <br /> time instead of sick time was read into the minutes. , Mr. Evora has been out on sick <br /> leave since April 7. In a note from his doctor, it states that he will be disabled <br /> . until June 24, 1982. The Board voted to allow Mr. Evora to use vacation time in lieu <br /> of sick time as he has nineteen days due him in the fiscal year. A follow-up letter <br /> will be sent to the Chief of the department with a copy to Mr. Evora. <br /> Interviews for Appeals Board Secretary <br /> Interviews for the Appeals Board Secretarial position were conducted by the Personnel <br /> Board along with the assistance of Mike Makunas, Chairman of the Board of Appeals. <br /> The following candidates were interviewed: Joyce Mason, Holly Fish, Dawn Thomas and <br /> -Diane DeBarros. All applicants ,were given a .typing test. The Board was in agreement <br /> that the following.recommendations be made: Diane DeBarros, Joyce Mason and Dawn <br /> Thomas. Mike Makunas did not wish .to make a recommendation. <br /> Complaint from Town Resident <br /> The secretary informed the Board that she received a telephone call from Mrs. Cronin <br /> complaining that the Assessors office was closed at. 1:30 p.m. on May 26. She stated <br /> that she did not want to make a-formal complaint at this time but stated that someone <br /> should be covering the office to serve the public. Bob Sullivan asked that the de- <br /> partment head be notified.. Also, the secretary was asked to call Mrs. Cronin to advise <br /> her that the matter had been discussed and that the Board is following up on it. <br /> Police Vacation Requests <br /> The Board was advised that several police officers have vacation time due in excess of <br /> what is allowed to be carried over. In a memo dated June 4, 1982, Chief Frye explains <br /> that the requests by these .police officers to take vacation time was not approved be- <br /> cause of a staffing problem.. . He requests- that the Personnel Board allow the police <br /> officers to carry over their excess. The secretary was asked by Bob Sullivan to get <br /> • copies of the requests made as' none were forwarded. <br />
