Personnel Board's
Minutes of April 26, 1982 Page 8
Joe mentioned that the Board has flexibility presently.
Caroline commented that she felt the article should be tabled or postponed indefinitely.
Selectwoman Thomas mentioned that it would be something for the Charter Commission to
look at.
Selectman Garland agreed that the article could be indefinitely postponed.
Caroline stated that she would do that.
Selectwoman Thomas stated that the area still needs to be looked into and by postponing
it doesn't mean that it is not to be thought about again.
Selectman Garland replied that he was not suggesting that it should be forgotten about.
Caroline referred to the Charter Commission stating that she was neutral.
Selectman Garland thought that a lot of people would not know what they were voting for.
Joe mentioned that other communities having gone the route of a Charter Commission were
quite successful.
Selectwoman Thomas said that the Commission would not be in place forever-- about eighteen
months. it would make recommendations and that the Charter Commission might come up with
a lot of ideas. She mentioned that the Government Study Committee is not working out for
the benefit of the town and that they are supposed to be the watch dog for the town.
OCaroline asked who was on the Government Study Committee?
Selectman Garland replied that it was non-functional.
Caroline then asked what they have done.
Selectwoman Thomas replied nothing.
Joe commented that it was a committee appointed by last town meeting and now there is an
article in the warrant to continue the same committee and provide new funds for next year.
The meeting adjourned at 8.50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mar ynFem
Recording Secretary
mf
s
