r MINUTES OF PERSONNEL BOARD • MASHPEE TOWN HALL March 22, 1982 The Personnel Board Meeting was called to order at 7:25 P.M. The following members of the Board were present: James F. Rich, Chairman, Caroline Gilligan, and Curtis Woodbury. General Business: Annual Town Physicals The annual town physicals are to be set up with the Town Physician, Dr. Lewis, for employees of the Fire Department, Police Department and Highway Department. All the Department Heads will be notified. Discussion was made as to whether or not Ray Martini should have a town physical as he is currently in the hospital. The Board voted unanimously that Mr. Martini would have to have a physical taken by the town physician or a letter from the town physician would be acceptable. The employees in the Fire, Police and Highway Departments who have started employ- ment with the town within the past eight months will be exempt from a physical at this time. All employees out on disability will have a physical prior to their re- turn to work. All employees over the age of forty will be required to have an EKG. . Appointment of Town Accountant The Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint Vernice Polka to the position of the Town Accountant at their meeting of this afternoon. Jim Rich and Caroline Gilligan expressed concern as they felt that the candidate had no formal education and that she was not recommended by the Personnel Board for the position. Joint Meeting The Selectmen have declined to meet with the Personnel Board at tonight's meeting. The Selectmen feel it is preferable to have a joint meeting on Wednesday afternoon and that it be held in their office. The secretary was asked to send a memo stating that the Personnel Board members still maintain that it is impossible for them to meet with the Selectmen during the day. Agreement on Interpretation of Fire Contract The Board of Selectmen approved the interpretation of Article 9 of the Firefighters Contract as was drawn up by John Weld last December. Appointment of Administrative Secretar to Fire Dept. The Selectmen voted unanimously to appoint Lucinda Erdman to the position of Adminis- trative Secretary to the Fire Chief at their meeting of March 17. Jim Rich commented that he was surprised that the Union Steward did not take action on this as he felt that it was not properly advertised. The Secretary informed the Personnel Board that Lucinda Erdman has been in touch with her on March 15 and stated that she had posted the job on the bulletin board at the fire station.
