Personnel. Board Minutes
of March 22, 1982 Page 2
Tuition Reimbursement
Geordine Roderick spoke with the Secretary earlier this evening and requested
that the Board consider paying her the reimbursement of the two courses which
she has completed for the Fall semester and not for the third course which was
incomplete.
The Board requested that the Secretary send a letter to the college asking for
a record of courses taken by Geordine to date..
The members of the Personnel Board voted unanimously not to reimburse Geordine.
for any courses until the matter of which courses were taken and what grades
were achieved are clarified.
Comp Time
A question was raised by Chief Gould as to when comp time could be taken and if
it could be carried over from year-to-year. The Board determined that comp time
must be taken within the fiscal year as it is limited up to ten days per year as
stated in the P.A.P. Comp time is not allowed to accumulate from year to year.
There was concern of the comp time being accumulated at the Police Station during
the employee's supper hour. Jim Rich stated that them was a union rule which stated
that each employee must have time off each shift for their lunch or supper hour.
Excessive Time Off
In reviewing the attendance records of employees, it was determined that the Depart-
ment Heads should be notified when their employees have taken excessive time off for
sick leave.
The secretary was asked to send a letter to Chief Frye regarding Geordine Roderick's
sick time. It was noted that there was one week where a comp day, a vacation day
and three sick days were taken by this employee.
Bereavement Time
It was brought to the Board's attention by the Town Accountant that Grace Maddox took
time off for bereavement which was not in the immediate family. It was noted on the
payroll voucher that no time had been marked on the week ending March 5 as prepared
by Grace Maddox. This was brought to the attention of the Department Head, Bob
DeLory, by the Town Accountant. On the following week ending March 12, the payroll
voucher was marked as Grace having taken sick time on March 1 (one-half day), March 2
(one-half day), March 4 (one-half day) and March 5 (one day). The Personnel Board
voted that they would not accept that time off as sick time and asked the Secretary
to send a memo to the Department Head informing him that his employee must fill out a
Request for Leave for personal time or comp time.
• Temporary Positions
A copy of a memo from Walter Jacobsen to Joseph Murphy was received regarding the
fact that Burley Green, the Foreman, will be on vacation from March 15 through March
19 and' during that period Oliver Pocknett will be temporary Foreman and Horace Pocknett
will act as temporary Heavy Equipment Foreman.
