•i <br /> MINUTES OF PERSONNEL BOARD <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br /> • February 22, 1982 <br /> The Personnel Board Meeting was called to order at 7:10 P.M. The following members of <br /> the Board were present: James F. Rich, Chairman, Caroline Gilligan, Bob Sullivan and <br /> Curtis Woodbury. <br /> Wendy Rubin met with the Board in order to discuss the different levels of employment <br /> in the Recreation Department allowing more flexibility. She spoke of different up- <br /> and-coming programs having different duties. Wendy mentioned that the Supervisor Title <br /> as proposed previously would not fit the actual job descriptions. She ,requested that <br /> the Board consider levels such as Level I - requiring no special training; Level II - a <br /> supervisor of programs - having responsibility and Level III - a specialist running <br /> special programs. A $3.40 per hour was suggested for Level I, $5 per hour was suggested <br /> for Level II and a range of $5 to $10 per hour was suggested for Level III. Wendy spoke <br /> of a gym program which was pending and requested leeway to hire instructors. She men- <br /> tioned'that she had been to the Finance Committee with next year's budget proposal and <br /> is requesting $1,000 be put into the wage account for the hiring of recreation staff. <br /> The Personnel Board voted unanimously to insert a new category into the P.A.P. for vote <br /> at town meeting for the Recreation Aide - Level I position at $3.40 per hour and Level <br /> II position at $5.00 per hour. The Board did not vote on Level III. Jim Rich felt that <br /> a contract price would be the way to go on Level III. Wendy was asked to draw up job <br /> descriptions on the two levels, I and II, for review by this Board. <br /> General Business: <br /> ness•i <br /> • Tuition Reimbursement <br /> A request for tuition reimbursement from Geordine Roderick was pending approval upon <br /> receipt of her grades. The grades were received, however, it was noted that a mark <br /> appeared to have been changed under the Criminal Justice course. The secretary was <br /> requested to call the school to verify the marks. She spoke with Mrs. Swimm from the <br /> Registrar's office. The grade as shown on the Criminal Justice course could not be <br /> verified. The school's records showed an incomplete. The Executive Secretary was noti- <br /> fied of the situation who, in turn, contacted Chief Frye. Geordine had also been con- <br /> tacted and stated that she had taken the exam late and her professor typed in the mark <br /> on the grade report. Chief Frye was in the building and was asked to step into the meet- <br /> ing. He mentioned that he had spoke to Geordine about the tuition reimbursement and ad- <br /> vised her to go to the college to get a letter from the professor. The Chief recommended <br /> not reimbursing Geordine until the matter was straightened out. <br /> Town Accountant Applications <br /> The applications for the town accountant position were reviewed by the Board. The <br /> Secretary was asked to set up interviews for the following candidates: Ann Shaw, James <br /> Martin, Claire O'Malley, James McGill and Vernice Polka. The interviewing is scheduled <br /> for the March 8 meeting. <br /> Request from Chief Gould <br /> A letter from Chief Gould dated February 19 was received and read into the minutes. It <br /> advises the Board that Lucinda Erdman has completed her six-month probationary period in <br /> a more than satisfactory manner. Chief Gould requested a response to his letter of <br /> January 7 in which he requested that Lucinda Erdman be promoted to the position of Admin- <br /> istrative Secretary. (A memo was drawn up and sent to Chief Gould as per his request.) <br /> The minutes of the Personnel e Board's meeting of February 8 were also requested. <br />
