Final Selection Criteria , cont : <br /> The Town ' s Physician will be given approved medical standards required <br /> for police candidates , using valid , useful , and non-discriminatory <br /> procedures . In addition to. physician ' s examination , appropriate labora- <br /> tory procedures , x-rays , and stress-cardio examination results will be <br /> reviewed by the examining physician . <br /> Each candidate will be provided with a copy of the Mashpee Police <br /> Department Employee Medical History Questionnaire , which must be com- <br /> pleted and returned to the Personnei ' Department . The Personnel Board <br /> will schedule the candidate for medical examination and related tests , <br /> and ensure that the examining physician receives completed copy of <br /> the Medical History Questionnaire . <br /> The examining , licensed physician will certify the general health of <br /> candidates on Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Form which is <br /> returned to 'the Personnel Board ;, and Chief of Police . Said results are <br /> confidential and will be seen by only the candidate , the Police Chief <br /> and the Personnel Board , Should a candidate be disqualified for medical <br /> reasons , he/she may appeal to the Town Personnel Board within seven ( 7 ) <br /> days following said notice of disqualification . In order to be further <br /> considered for employment , the candidate must present substantial medi" <br /> cal evidence that he/'she is physically fit to perform the job of Police <br /> Officer . The decision of the Personnel Board concerning appeals of <br /> physical qualifications for any candidate will be final . <br /> Final Background Check - The Chief of Police will ensure that a background <br /> investigation is conducted of each candidate prior to appointment . The <br /> purpose of the background investigation is to determine the candidate ' s <br /> suitability for employment as a Police officer . Among other things , the <br /> background investigation must verify other State mandated minimum quali- <br /> fications for office including US citizenship , have a'.high. school educa- <br /> tion or have passed the General Educational Development exam, and possess <br /> a valid Massachusetts license (may possess . valid license from another <br /> state but will be required to obtain a Massachusetts license prior to <br /> employment ) . <br /> The background investigation of applicants will include the verification . <br /> of a candidate ' s qualifying credential to include , at a minimum : <br /> 1 . Educational achievement - obtain copies of school transcripts if <br /> possible . Contact school officials for personal information . <br /> 2 . Employment - verify employment references ; if possible , obtain <br /> supervisory evaluation of work performance and co-workers comments . <br /> 3 . Age/citizenship - verify birth data , naturalization , etc . <br /> 4 . Residence - verify current residence ; contact landlords , neighbors . <br /> 5 . Credit history <br /> 6 . Criminal history - obtain NCIC , state , local records to include <br /> driving records , FBI fingerprint check . <br />
