`PERSONNEL BOARD <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br /> '.,- MEETING OF FEBRUARY 1 7 , 1988 <br /> The following members of the Personnerl, Board, were present for today ' s meet- <br /> ing : Robert W: Sullivan ,' Caroline M. Gilligan and C : Ben Lofchie , <br /> Chairman Sullivan convened the meeting at 10 : 30 a -m . <br /> Minutes of Personnel Board <br /> Caroline Gilligan moved to accept the minutes of January 11 and January 4 <br /> of the Personnel Board . Ben Lofchie seconded . All in favor . <br /> Interview for <br /> Pu_blic__safety_Dispatcher <br /> h Te Bo i ard nterviewed Edith Nelson for the full-time position of Public <br /> Safety Dispatcher . The background of Mrs . Nelson was reviewed with the <br /> Board noting that she has had much experience with the Sandwich Police <br /> Department in al-1 aspects of police work _ Mrs . Nelson told the Board that <br /> she has taken the test at the Barnstable Police Academy for a Special Police <br /> Officer , she has finished a First Responder ' s Course and has been to a <br /> Suicide Seminar . <br /> Chief Frye , who was present during the interviews , advised Mrs . Nelson that <br /> she would work a swing shift and that there may be a day on the weekend which <br /> she will be required to work . He said that there are shift -bids every three <br /> :months . Mrs . Nelson said that she understood . The Chief advised Mrs : Nelson <br /> of a . meeting scheduled with the -Dispatchers today at 3 : 30 p .m , regarding the <br /> scheduling ' of their hours . Mrs . Nelson indicated that she would like to at- <br /> tend - <br /> Town benefits were also reviewed with the candidate _ The rate of pay , which <br /> is $7 :45 hourly with a shift differential , was also reviewed . <br /> Mrs . Nelson said that she was very interested in the position and feels she <br /> could do the job; however , she stated that she would want to learn the streets . <br /> The Chief told Mrs . Nelson that she would have the opportunity to ride around <br /> in a cruiser in order to learn the streets . <br /> With no further questions of the applicant , the Board '.advised Mrs . Nelson that <br /> they would recommend her for appointment . Mrs : Nelson was also advised that <br /> there was a pre-employment physical . <br /> Two other applicants , who applied, for the position , withdrew their applications <br /> at this time -- one stating that he only wanted part-time work and the other <br /> candidate was on vacation and asked to be considered at another time . <br /> Openings for Police Officer <br /> Chief Frye advised Tthe�Board that his department has openings for two positions ; <br /> possibly three with the retirement of Fred Peters. He said that he was looking <br /> into hiring Special Police Officers -- training the candidates -- and .then <br /> hiring them as permanent police officers if all is favorable . He asked the <br /> Board to go through the same steps of the process as hiring a permanent officer , <br /> which would be sending -them for the physical and the psychological testing . He <br /> told the Board that he is also looking for applicants which lived locally be- <br /> cause the department has not had luck with people being hired from off-Cape . <br /> The Board agreed to schedule interviews for Monday , February 22 . <br />
