Personnel Board <br /> Meeting of ' January 9 , 1989 Page 2 <br /> Discussion" of Police Officer Vacancies , cant . <br /> Chief Frye advised the�Board that they are looking to fill another posi- <br /> tion -funded as of this January and if the retirement goes through the <br /> end of this month for Fred Peters , they, wiil replace him . He also told <br /> the Board that Officer Slevin has a hearing coming up and there will <br /> , probably be a vacancy . . <br /> Ed Baker asked the Chief if both Bryant and Redmond are okay with their <br /> background checks wouldn ' t he fill the position from last January with <br /> one and use the other for this January? The Chief replied "yes " ; how- <br /> ever , there were additional openings coming .up _ <br /> With regard to .Special Police Officers , the Chief said that they may be <br /> looking for some . <br /> Candidates for Patrolman <br /> The Board , along with the assistance of Chief Frye , interviewed the <br /> following candidates for a patrolman position : Michael Brown , David <br /> Nurse ; Christopher Hamilton , Carl Delorme and Alain Roguzac . Background <br /> of all candidates was reviewed with regard to work experience , education , <br /> interest in the field , etc . Candidates were asked if they would be in- <br /> terested in a. Special Police Officer. position if not chosen for a full- <br /> time patrolman position . All candidates were interested . The Chief <br /> discussed the shifts with each candidate and' the difference in pay for <br /> a Special Police Officer . Upon conclusion of the interview process , the <br /> Board voted to recommend background checks on Michael Brown , Christopher <br /> Hamilton , Carl Delorme and Alain Roguzac . David Nurse was not being <br /> considered for a position _ The Board felt he was inexperienced and lacked <br /> maturity . Alain Roguzac will be recommended for a full-time permanent <br /> position . Mr . Roguzac has police experience with the Town of Wayland as <br /> an auxilliary since 1980 : The reason he has not applied for a full-time ' <br /> position was due to commitment to help run his mother ' s sporting goods <br /> store . The business has now sold due to a car accident his mother was in . <br /> The other candidates : Michael Brown , ChristopherHamilton and Carl Delorme <br /> will be recommended for Special Police positions . <br /> Proposal for Wage Rates for Temporary and Call Fire Dept . Personnel <br /> Board members. were given a proposal for wage rates for temporary and call <br /> fire department personnel for FY ' 90 from Chief Ridgeway dated Jan . 3 . <br /> They will review and discuss at their next meeting . The Chief .is recom- <br /> mending that there be five steps for call and. seasonal firefighters as <br /> it would offer an incentive for those firefighters who have advanced <br /> ,levels of training and experience . <br /> The Chief is also asking that a new position of provisional firefighter <br /> be . created along with positions of Public Safety Dispatcher/Paramedic . <br /> Interview Policy <br /> The Assistant advised the Board that the Selectmenf�wof--11' 5e discussing <br /> the Personnel Board ' s interview policy at their meeting tonight . <br />
