KENNETH C. COOMBS SCHOOL SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT GOALS 2009-2010 Preschool: Subject-Literacy/Math: In the context of literacy and math for Work Sampling reporting, we will implement the Class Rating Checklist monthly to measure student achievement. Results: The assessment tools were implemented to measure student achievement and to drive instruction. The team found these tools useful. Kindergarten: Subject-Reading: To demonstrate DMELS improvement to the next benchmark: 60%of"at risk" students will move to"some risk"or"low risk"on the Letter Naming Fluency Assessment by June 2010. Results: A total of 11 students moved from"at risk"in September to"some risk"or"low risk"by June. 19 students were followed. 8 stayed"at risk"(42%). 3 moved to"some risk"(16), 8 moved to "low risk"(42%). A total of 58% met goal. Grade One: Subject-Literacy: Students will perform above the state average in Oral Reading Fluency and Nonsense Word Fluency in DIBELS testing on winter 2010 and Spring 2010 DMELS. Results: Grade one students who were performing at an"at risk"level were targeted through third tier intervention and progress monitoring. Students working in small groups who received third tier intervention were moving from"at-risk"to"low-risk"category.After final DIBELS test, most students were performing above the state average in Nonsense Word FIuency. Grade Two: Subject-Literacy: Second grade at risk students will increase their Oral Reading Fluency by ten words by their winter assessment. Second Grade students will increase their Oral Reading Fluency by ten words by their spring assessment. This would be a total of twenty words for the school year. Results: 70% (8 out of 12)of the"at-risk"students increased Oral Reading Fluency scores by twenty words by the end of the school year. The four students who did not meet the goal received special needs services. According to the DIBELS data for spring 2010, 97 students out of 126 were reading 90-208 wpm by the spring 2010 benchmark. The 41h grade benchmark is approximately 120 wpm. The Fountas and PinnelI RTI Expectations for grade 2 Oral Reading Fluency for Tier I students is 80-100 wpm; Tier U 60-70 wpm;Tier III is 50 wpm or below. The DIBELS stabilizes or flat-lines after the second graders hit 90-100+wpm(sometimes in Winter scores,often in Spring). After that they are reading with expression and meaning(which is what we really want). We have been discussing the usefulness of DIBELS for those students who are reading over 100 wpm. Special Education: Subject-Reading: To compile a list of available interventions for teachers to implement with students who fail to make progress in the regular reading curriculum. Results: Areas of focus for reading interventions with special education students were defined. Additional interventions will be included in TAT reports and implemented as priority interventions by the classroom teacher or other staff member. Effectiveness of interventions will occur in six-week intervals. School Council: Subject-Literacy Development: To develop a calendar of"Mashpce Reads" reading activities—January through June to celebrate reading. Result: This goal was met 100%.
