iQuashnet River School Council Meeting Minutes December 9, 1998 Meeting called to order 6:30 p.m. Attendees: Louise Doyle, Sandy Reichel, Angela Luna,Donna McCaffery, Rebecca Bingham,Lucinda McKay, Carol Russell, Kathleen Penney Public Forum: Donna McCall ay brought up parent concerns regarding parent notification of sex education films shown to students. It was decided next year to send home forms with a sign and return section and to set up a time for parents to preview the film. The fourth grade trip to see the Nutcracker was discussed. All schools applied for the tickers, but only the Coombs school children received tickets this year. Sandy Reichel said she would check into the children attending a local presentation. There was a question about internet access in the computer room and library. Mrs. Doyle will check into it. There was a suggestion to develop a plan for where new computers should be placed based on seniority. Approval of minutes: ,Minutes from November 12, I998 were distributed and read. Lucinda McKay moved to approve the minutes. Kathleen Penney seconded it. Unanimously approved. F"Y 2000 budget update There will be a school committee budget meeting on Wednesday, January 13, TOO p.m., at the High School, room B 103. The school committee requests that school council members be present. The superintendent sent copies of draft FY 2000 budgets to the principals and asked them to take out what could be spared. Mrs. Doyle noticed that some line item assessments for the Quashnet River School were lower than the Coombs and Valley school. She was able to remove$19,000.00, but added in$54,950.00 for equity between the schools. This resulted in an increase of 535,950.00 to the draft budget. This included S10,000.00 system wide for professional development. Right now the school budget is 14.4 million without additions from the principals. The superintendent met with Bob Writenour. The town figure for the school budget is 13.8 million. Mrs. Doyle did not know if this included contractual negotiation. The superintendent will meet with each principal individually. Subtractions to the budget will be done first,then additions will be added. There was a request to send a copy of the budget to council members with the next agenda so that it can be discussed at the next meeting. Alternative education was discussed. The elementary subcommittee meeting of the school committee supported a non-SPED alternative education program. Math Night Lucinda McKay presented possible dates of Thursday,March 4 or March I la`. She is developing packets for grade appropriate activities. Marionettes There will be a family night presentation of the Marionettes show March g. -All three schools may attend. It may have to be shown at the high school. Carol Russell suggested that the Cinderella presentation would be better for a large audience. The Fain Circus is better for just one school.
