QUASHNET RIVER SCHOOL <br /> SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING <br /> OCTOBER 20, 1999 <br /> MINUTES <br /> The meeting was called to order at 6:35 PM in the Quashnet River School staff <br /> lounge. Present were: Louise Doyle, Corrie Green, Angela Luna, Dorene Goldstein, <br /> Kathleen Penny, Lucinda McKay, Joanne McConnell, Maureen Hall and Lauretta Leone. <br /> No one was present for Open Forum. <br /> Elections of new School Council members took place. Mrs. Doyle and Maureen. <br /> Hall co-chair the meetings. Vote by Corrie Green. Seconded by Kathleen Penny. <br /> Unanimous <br /> Joanne McConnell was nominated for secretary. Note by Lucinda McKay. <br /> Seconded by Kathleen Penny. <br /> Unanimous <br /> Mrs. Doyle presented a school budget update. The October Town Meeting <br /> approved $500,000 free cash from the town to supplement the school budget shortfall. <br /> The kindergarten program, librarians, extracurricular, sports programs, etc. will remain <br /> intact for the '99-'00 school year. <br /> The school budget process is already underway for FY '01. The first phase of the <br /> budget will address staffing requests. For FY'01 Quashnet River will recommend the <br /> following: <br /> -Grade 4 Teacher (adding a 3rd section to this grade) <br /> -Grade 5 Teacher (presently 3 grade 4's due to a Class Size Reduction Grant). <br /> In order not to increase enrollments to 26126 suggestion will be made for 3 <br /> sections for'0041. <br /> -.2 Specialist <br /> -.5 Guidance Secretary <br /> -2-3 weeks or a few days per week in the summer for summer guidance help <br /> -Nurse's Office/Medical Assistant/Data Entry Person <br /> -Grade 4-6 Math Tutor <br /> -Grade 4-6 Language Arts Tutor <br /> -Grade 1-3 Remedial Reading Teacher(in the event we are not Title I funded) <br /> -.5 Speech Therapist <br /> -Assistant Principal for all Elementary Schools <br /> -1.5 Kindergarten Assistants (bringing each class to a full time k assistant). <br /> There was some discussion surrounding each position and a justification for each. <br /> The positions, rationale,justification and estimated costs will be discussed in more depth <br /> at the November School Council meeting. <br />
