ro
MASHPEE SEWER COMMISSION
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2008
MASHPEE TOWN HALL
Members Present: Don Desmaris, Tom Fudala, Matt Berrelli
Also Present: Gerry Potamus, Falmouth
Stearns and_Wheler update:
The consultants have satisfied the requests of SMaSt who now have a database they
can use. The review process can begin. There is no completion date set.
The'5 scenario versions were sent to SMaST in March.
A quote regarding this project in the CC Times made is seem that SMaSt was being
unresponsive. Tom said the quote was incomplete and he wants to clarify that
statement tonight; that is not the case.
The subsurface investigation is on hold. The Sewer Commission told S & W to pursue
State archeological and Natural Heritage on all the potential sites. They have not put a
package together yet for those submissions. The species of concern is the eastern box
turtle and grasshopper sparrow.
Hopefully the investigation work will be allowed but a facility would require much more,
in depth work.
Regina Villa: at the last meeting, everyone agreed RV would provide a proposal for 3
brochures and work on a website.
Gerry Potamus, said in Falmouth, they have a separarte web page which their in house
GIS department set up. He does not know how many hits it has gotten.
Tom has sent all the SRF paperwork into the State. Loan re-financing should be
complete in December.
Meeting with Selectmen:
S & W sent them the executive summary from the scenarios. Tom thinks they need
something briefer and something that explains the entire project.
Matt thinks the Fin Com wants to know more about the costs. Tom said they already
received the spreadsheet.
A subcommittee is being developed to look at funding options. That is part of S & W
contract, to make recommendations for funding.
The Sewer Commission has authority over fees and charges.
There was an editorial in the Mashpee Enterprise supporting the concept of the Water
District participating in a sewer district. Tom said maybe this will have an effect on the
other water district commissioners.
Matt said we are not asking them to become a Sewer District without proper support to
do it. The mind set has to change.
