Growth Review Committee Minutes Page 3
October 19, 1982
Sel. Garland, cont.
-.......——,
with the commercial area fronting on Rte. 28 and the back area in the
industrial zone.
Nonie Anderson mentioned that there were set backs for commercial.
Sel. Thomas said that there would be enough room.
Richardson Jonas felt that the Committee should review subdivisions to
see if they would accommodate industry.
Sel. Garland asked what is industry -- referring to a pump manufacturer.
Richardson Jonas mentioned Augats and comment,"ed,,! that a place like that
would need a lot a land.
Sel. Garland commented that you need transportation for industry stating
that there is no immediate access to trains or the airport. He did,
however, feel that pump people would probably use trucks.
Sel. Thomas stated that transportation is not as difficult as it was
years ago.
Nonie Anderson suggested looking for light industry.
Richardson Jonas said that we should see if it will accommodate light
industry.
Nonie Anderson said that the front lots could be used for commercial.
Sel. Thomas commented that it would be expanding the business area.
Sel. Garland said that what he would like to see is something compati-
ble in a small proposed area. He mentioned New Seabury doing a good
business in the summer but in the winter they starve.
Sel. Thomas commented that Mashpee is sandwiched between two of the
biggest towns on Cape Cod_:and that we would need something attractive
as right now there is no drawing card to bring people to Mashpee.
Nonie Anderson commented that there is nothing in the shopping center.
Sel. Thomas said that we are trying to improve quality.
Harold Collins commented that New Seabury is putting in some specialty
shops.
Chm. Terry mentioned that the theatre moved out.
Richardson Jonas said that the reason why the theatre moved out was
that it was a lease thing and not a money situation.
Sel. Garland said that there was not enough there to attract people.
Chm. Terry asked if it was just a matter of having more numbers?
