.41
Growth Review Committee Minutes Page 2
October 19, 1982
Harold Collins mentioned that the apartments should be something
similar to what Dr. Canning wants to do in his opinion.
Sel. Thomas mentioned Quinnaquisset which is trying to promote a
leisure village concept.
Chm. Terry asked about the Mitchell property?
Harold Collins said that it is a planned retirement village and
that people had to be fifty-five or older to get in.
Sel. Thomas commented that it is a self-contained thing.
Nonie Anderson asked if they were rental units? Harold replied that
they were.
Sel. Thomas mentioned that the Board was thinking about expanding the
business area and industrial area.
Chm. Terry mentioned that he had questions about the industrial area
being in the wrong area or expanding commercial in general. He said
that the Board should try to get Brian Barber to write up a commercial
situation to enhance someone to come in to do a shopping area in Mashpee.
He suggested devoting land and doing a proposal to send out to develop-
er.s where the whole thing would be laid out like a subdivision explain-
ing that a business zone can be charted out, however, there would be a
risk of not being able to attract somebody to use it in a couple years.
He suggested re-zoning industrial or residential into,-cpmmercial and
trying to feed it into certain areas.
Michelle Stone said that the original discussion in a meeting which she
first attended was that we were looking for commercial and that the
entire town cannot be looked at as a project. She explained further that
she thought we were looking for a town center as Phase I -- a place to
start and that the topic of conversation was what kinds of things are in
a town center. Someone suggested apartments in close proximity and the
question was asked if any commercial activity should be included with a
town center. The answer was "no" . "You can't do it all in one shot".
Harold Collins suggested taking a radius of one mile from the center
commenting that then you would only be dealing with nine. or ten land-
owners,
Chm. Terry asked if we were trying to direct certain business in any
area or all kinds of shops in one area?
Michelle Stone mentioned that Brian Barber said that there wasn't any
way to be discriminatory.
Sel. Garland mentioned that it could be controlled by a single ownership
as the town could not control it.
N6nie Anderson mentioned that she wouldn't like it to look like Great
White Way.
Sel. Garland ref6kred to an area below the mashpee circle which is zoned
as I-1 and suggested that it be combined as industrial and commercial
