07
Town of Mashpee Sewer Commission
sw
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
Meeting Minutes of the Mashpee Sewer Commission
Thursday, January 16, 2025; 2:00 PM
Mashpee Town Hall -Waquoit Meeting Room
16 Great Neck Road North, Mashpee, MA 02649
*In-person and televised meeting*
Present: Chair, Meredith Harris; Vice Chair, Alfred Towle; Clerk, Catherine Castaneda; Commissioners
Mohan Nair, and Joseph Lyons; and Wastewater Superintendent,Jared Meader
Chair, Meredith Harris called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. in open session.
The Pledge of Allegiance was recited followed by a moment of silence.
Minutes
The Chair requested any changes or comments to the minutes of December 19, 2024. Mr.Towle
motioned to approve the minutes as submitted. Motion seconded by Ms. Castaneda. Motion passed
by unanimous consent.
Public Comment
Ms. Susan Dangle of 762 Cotuit Road came forward to make note of her attendance at the Falmouth
Water Quality group and that they presented on their sewer plan over a long period of time and
discussed the need for the public to have a narrowed down version to share with the public. I share this
as Mashpee residents have been receiving their tax bills and claiming that the increase is due to
Mashpee's sewer project for Phases 1 and 2, however at this time there's no associated costs to sewer
for residents at this time. She expressed her concern to have something presented to the public on
rates in a road show type of forum as well as the steps as residents go through the sewer connection
process.
New Business
Monthly engineer update -GHD
Sandra Tripp from GHD then gave their monthly update on the sewer project. Ms.Tripp noted that GHD
had made a presentation to the Select Board the previous week and stated that she'd be sharing some
of that presentation with the Sewer Commission as well as more specific updates that are currently in
progress. She first updated the Commission that the Water Resource Recovery Facility(WRRF) is ready
to be powered and they are ready to begin testing on the equipment. She reported that there's a
generator on site and that the odor control facility is built. The open tanks are now also covered. The
Preliminary Treatment building is ready to go. The Process Building is in final stages. The sand beds are
completed and will eventually be expanded.
Ms.Tripp stated that the Phase 1 is essentially completed, but they need the WRRF to be completed.
She stated that Phase 1A work is still in progress and is going well and is on schedule.
Ms.Tripp then updated the Commission on the schedule. She began by reviewing where the project
was a year ago. She noted of importance that the delay of the MCCs (equipment to run the WRRF) had
been delayed and pushed the completion date from July 2025 to September 2025. She stated that they
were expecting to receive the MCC before February. Once it's received, they will begin to make all the
connections, run testing and training and that in April to June there will be clearwater testing and
