Mr. Thomas stated that the change in design is good and that he will take Mr. Quiterio's word <br /> regarding Cape Cod Oyster. Mr. Thomas went on to explain that the Shellfish Commission <br /> grants are for the people of Mashpee— and that any deviation to the plan will not go well. <br /> Mr. Thomas made a Motion to Accept the Reconfigured Plan. Mr. Christensen seconded <br /> the Motion. Mr. Holmes stated that he thought it could be a problem. Mr. Thomas, Mr. <br /> Christensen and Mr. Avis, all voted Yes. Mr. Holmes and Mr. Cook voted No. <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Shellfish Constable's Report <br /> Chris Avis handed out the Shellfish Constable Report—March 2025 <br /> He reported that it has been unusually windy, especially in January and February, which posed <br /> challenges. <br /> He had ordered and has since received fifty-eight (58) additional floating cages. Plans to add <br /> twelve (12)more floating cages to each location for a total of thirty-six (36) floating cages per <br /> location. New cage designs and additional equipment to enhance production resilience against <br /> wave action and weather. One Hundred (100)bags have been obtained (free) and will be floated <br /> in the river so that each location will have approximately two-hundred and sixteen (216)bags, <br /> with a total of three-hundred and sixteen (316) bags in the river. <br /> Career Fairs: <br /> Mr. Avis reported that there have been multiple career fairs with positive engagement. There <br /> have been visits to high schools to attract summer workers and potential interns with the largest <br /> career fair at Mass Maritime Academy which generated interest and resumes. Currently seeking <br /> three (3)positions on the shellfish side,possible four(4) according to Mr. Tomaino. Interviews <br /> have been scheduled by HR. <br /> MA Shellfish Officers Association: <br /> Met on March 13, 2025, in New Bedford with the biggest question being the Constable Class and <br /> what that will look like. Mr. Avis reported that it will be at Cape Cod Community College as an <br /> elective with a hybrid online and in-person component and can be worked at one's own pace <br /> with field trips to different locations across the Cape teaching about aquaculture and learning <br /> about Mass General Law. <br /> Seminars and Workshops /Environmental Issues: <br /> Attended a two (2)hour county seminar on sponges and worms (although not as much an issue <br /> in Mashpee but more down Cape) and how to mitigate it and what is being done about some of <br /> the issues. <br /> Maintenance and Upgrades: <br /> Vessel Equipment <br /> There has been an installation of an additional crane on a shellfish boat to handle floating gears <br /> and all boats are currently in service and are operational. Two years ago, there was a Capital <br /> Improvement to go from 110 amp to 200 amp at Little River. With the air conditioning running <br /> in the shelter shack, it caused the system to shut down whenever activated. The unit was <br /> removed and is currently being upgraded with a new generator. <br /> 3 <br />
