Reserve (WBNERR). WBNERR is managing the public outreach, advertising,
and organization of this event. Commissioners are highly encouraged to attend.
➢ Johns Pond and Santuit Pond Milfoil
o Agent has submitted an Ecological Restoration NOI to E-DEP for the treatment of
invasive milfoil and fanwort on Santuit Pond, as well as control of native elodea
(a native species of pond weed that has become a nuisance in Santuit Pond).
Target date for hearing is March 20t'for Johns Pond, there is an existing order of
conditions that allows for ongoing treatment of invasive milfoil. The initial
treatments were successful in eradicating much of the infested areas of the pond;
however, some growth or reintroduction occurred in June, along with a post-
treatment survey from Water and Wetland LLC (contractors hired to treat for the
aquatic invasives)
➢ Chop Chaque Bog Restoration
o The construction and excavation phase has been completed. The next steps
include regrading the bog access road and path around the bogs in early spring,
installing an interpretive sign, and conducting long-term monitoring and
maintenance over the next five years. In the spring, we will see vegetation emerge
from native seed banks that have been covered by the cranberry bog surface and
years of sand layering. Any invasive plants will be removed, and native
vegetation will be planted in areas that may lack natural regrowth or require
supplementation. The Native Land Conservancy holds a conservation restriction
on the property and will assist with monitoring, maintenance, and management
moving forward.
➢ Local Comprehensive Plan No updates
➢ Herring Warden
o Staff will be assessing each herring run in preparation for spring migration
(clearing any blockages or impediments to fish passage, herring run board
adjustments, etc.)
➢ Harbor Management Committee
o The draft document is nearing completion. Surveys have been conducted to
inform the draft. The draft has not yet been distributed to commissioners, but it
will be shared for review.
➢ Mashpee River Restoration
o Ongoing data collection for conceptual design: the consultant(Tighe and Bond)
met with conservation staff to identify areas of concern where the Mashpee River
abuts Washburn Pond, as well as areas downstream from Great Neck Rd North to
Route 28 culvert.
➢ Santuit Pond Fish Ladder
o NRCS is still working on finalizing plans for the construction of a nature-like fish
passage component for the existing fish ladder and spillway. The ultimate plan is
9
