Select Board
Minutes
June 23,2025

Scott Turner and Ashley Fisher presented updates on the $1.7M state-funded Santuit Pond
Town Landing restoration project, set to begin construction next fall. Key improvements
include stormwater upgrades, native shoreline buffers, relocated parking, public art, and
amenities like a kayak launch and trails. About 80% of phosphorus in the pond is from
sediment, which the project aims to address. Maintenance will be handled by the town
with DPW support.
Community engagement efforts are ongoing, including youth art initiatives and
collaboration with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. The project will feature native plantings
and Wampanoag language signage. A proposed gated entrance raised concerns; it's
intended to deter vandalism, though alternatives like cameras may be explored. Fisher also
noted the Tribe secured a $7M grant to support sediment reduction.
Presentation on the 250th Celebration of the American Revolutionary War – Richard
DeSorgher, Historical Commission
As part of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Historical Commission
noted that while events have taken place across the region, Mashpee had no town-wide
recognition. In response, they created a booklet honoring 15 Wampanoag individuals who
gave their lives during the Revolutionary War. The project was a collaboration between
MMHS students, the National Honor Society, and the local library. The booklets will be
available at the library starting tomorrow. The Commission will also present an annual
preservation award to the MMHS National Honor Society and the 3rd grade class at the
Wampanoag School for their contributions.
Additional celebrations include a banner unveiling on July 13 and weekly Monday walking
tours through historic Mashpee locations, as well as Tuesday openings of the schoolhouse.
COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE
Concerns were received regarding jet ski activity on Mashpee-Wakeby Pond. Some
operators were reported to be behaving irresponsibly and without regard for others,
prompting discussion about potential safety and enforcement measures.
OLD BUSINESS
Update on Process for Proposed 40B Project at Lot 14 Jobs Fishing Road
Brian Tobin, Town Planner, provided an update on a MassHousing letter received regarding
a 40B permit application.
