This adjustment is due to a recent change in the Massachusetts Building Code,
which now requires that a certified building official perform the inspection. The
increase is intended to help offset the immediate burden on the department, which
handles approximately450-500 inspections annually. The added workload has led to
increased staff time and departmental expenses.
Processing Fee for Certificate of Occupancy
A new$50 processing fee was proposed forthe issuance of Certificates of Occupancy,
which are currently issued without a fee. The Commissioner noted that most other
towns charge forthis document and that Mashpee's permitting system does not
currently track this process effectively due to the lack of an associated dollar amount.
Implementing this fee would also enable better tracking and accountability.
Motion made by Selectman Weeden to Increase Short-Term Rental Inspection Fee from
$100 to$125.
7
